چکیده

The authors demonstrate a new route to the fabrication of individual aluminosilicate microtubes that can act as micron-scale optical cylindrical resonators. The microtubes were prepared using a simple vacuum assisted wetting and filtration through a microchannel glass matrix. Microphotoluminescence spectra of the microtube cavity show sharp resonant modes with quality factors up to 3200. A strong reduction of the emission decay time at high excitation power confirms the occurrence of amplified spontaneous emission from a single microtube. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. Modified spontaneous emission properties of CdS quantum dots embedded in novel three-dimensional microcavities

Modified spontaneous emission properties in the presence of confined photon modes inside the three-dimensional (3-D.) optical microcavities are demonstrated. Self-formed pyramidal-shaped semiconductor structures fabricated by selective-area growth technique are utilized as an optical microcavity in which discrete photon modes are generated. Noticeable modification of spontaneous emission from a...

Spontaneous Emission Spectrum from a Driven Three-Level Atom in a Double-Band Photonic Crystal

Abstract The spontaneous emission spectrum from a driven three-level atom placed inside a double-band photonic crystal has been investigated. We use the model which assumes the upper levels of the atomic transition are coupled via a classical driving field. The transition from one of the upper levels to lower level couples to the modes of the modified reservoir, and the transition from the oth...

Electrical control of spontaneous emission and strong coupling for a single quantum dot

We report the design, fabrication and optical investigation of electrically tunable single quantum dots—photonic crystal defect nanocavities operating in both the weak and strong coupling regimes of the light–matter interaction. Unlike previous studies where the dot–cavity spectral detuning was varied by changing the lattice temperature, or by the adsorption of inert gases at low temperatures, ...

Polarization properties of dipolelike defect modes in photonic crystal nanocavities.

Far-field measurements of the in-plane polarization properties of spontaneous emission from optical nanocavities formed in two-dimensional photonic crystal slab waveguides are presented. A strong polarization signature, even subthreshold, is found for a pair of highly localized dipolelike resonant modes. This polarization signature is used to study the effects of symmetry lowering within the ca...

Manipulation of cold atomic collisions by cavity QED effects.

We show how the dynamics of collisions between cold atoms can be manipulated by a modification of spontaneous emission times. This is achieved by placing the atomic sample in a resonant optical cavity. Spontaneous emission is enhanced by a combination of multiparticle entanglement together with a higher density of modes of the modified vacuum field, in a situation akin to superradiance. A speci...
